The 'Mountain of the Sun' is Oman's highest point in the Al Hajar range. The nearby 'Grand Canyon of Oman' (Wadi Ghul) is a spectacular gorge.
The highest mountain in Oman is Jabal Akhdar (Jebel Shams), at 3,004 meters above sea level.
Allow 4–8 hours round trip from the standard trailhead. Times vary with fitness, conditions and which trailhead you start from.
No guide needed. A marked trail, decent fitness and a map or GPS track are enough for most fit hikers.
The usual season is March to November. Outside that window expect snow, storms or closed access.
