In the Cal Madow mountains of semi-autonomous Puntland. One of the most challenging highpoints due to security concerns.

The highest mountain in Somalia is Shimbiris, at 2,460 meters above sea level.
Allow 2–3 days including an approach and a hut or bivouac. Times vary with fitness, conditions and which trailhead you start from.
Strongly recommended unless you are an experienced alpinist. Glacier travel, altitude or remoteness make an unguided attempt serious.
The usual season is the local dry season — anytime outside the monsoon or rainy months. Outside that window expect snow, storms or closed access.
Crampons, ice axe, harness, rope and glacier-rescue gear plus warm layers and a helmet.
